Curriculum

We follow the EYFS curriculum. The three prime areas are:

  • Communication and Language

  • Physical development

  • Personal and Social development

These are crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.

Children learn to engage with others and their environment by playing, exploring, active learning, creating and thinking critically. To learn well children must approach opportunities with curiosity, energy and enthusiasm. Learning should be meaningful to a child, so that they can apply it in new situations. We ensure your child is supported in the key characteristics of effective learning at such a critical time.

The three prime areas are strengthened and applied through the following:

Literacy, Language & Communication

Learning the alphabet, writing letters and words, building stories, puppet theatre, story time, speaking, listening and expressing feelings.

Maths

Learning our numbers and shapes, number rhymes and sequencing.

Expressive art
and design

Creating artworks, colour mixing, messy play, music, dressing up corner, baking, dancing, singing and drama.

Understanding the world

Geography, science, nature and history are explored via or weekly topics and also through real life observations such as ducklings hatching in school and termly school trips.

Groups

Each term, the children are divided into groups (Dolphins, Starfish, Turtles, Seahorses or Jellyfish).  Whereas these are broadly age based, we acknowledge all children develop at an individual pace and we aim to place children in a group that will both make them feel confident and allow for growth and development.

The groups are small enough for each child to receive ample individual attention. During the school day, there are plenty of opportunities for the children to participate in joint group or whole school activities such as story time, music, dance, clubs and outdoor play, allowing for friendships to blossom across the board.

Activities and Enrichment

Throughout these learning activities, and around the table at lunchtime, we encourage social and personal development such as good manners, relating to one another, listening, forming friendships and working collaboratively.

Whereas many of the above planned activities also develop fine and gross motor skills, in addition, we also offer a wide range of outdoor activities to increase fitness, ball skills and coordination.

We further enrich our school days with many planned events in the diary.
